An Analysis Of The Inequality In Abortion Rights

Rubel Patil, New Law College, Bhartiya Vidyapeeth, Pune

INTRODUCTION

Inequality started thousands and thousands of years ago and the legacy still somewhat continues. This world would’ve been a better place to live in if our ancestors wouldn’t had supressed the power, voice, intelligence, brilliance, etc of a woman just because of her gender. Women were not just robbed of their rights to practice their abilities but also of having the liberty, choice and freedom of deciding how to live. For years, they were moulded in a specific role which would constrict their development. If it wasn’t for the fierce women who fought for their own and their fellow women’s rights, we wouldn’t had been able to practice the freedom that we get today. But it should be noted that there is still need for improvement in our society. In my opinion, women from the more developed parts of our country and the world have created strong identities for themselves but there still are areas where women even in this modern age do not have the freedom of choice. These are women whom we need to fight for the most to help them at least have the mere opportunity to make basic choices for their own will.

Now that we have mentioned basic rights, the right to reproduce or eliminate a pregnancy is the most basic human right they should get to exercise. But yet its awareness is always kept under the wraps and often not kept open for discussion. And this is an issue that largely affects the health of women. The women who suffer the most are women from rural areas who do not have access to any safe healthcare facilities or legitimate information.
