Facts of the Case

Both the general attitude of the populace and the legal system show that there is no gender awareness in Indian society. To defend the rights of people who don't identify as either men or females, it is required to adopt certain laws and regulations. For maintain & ensure the legitimate status of transgender community, two petitions have been filed.

Upon account of transgender minority, the National Legal Services Authority pleaded with the Apex court in 20122, alleging persistent infringement of basic licit. To give legal counsel to societally marginalized groups, the National Legal Services Authority was founded. Another group, the Poojaya Mata Nasib Kaur Ji Women Welfare Society, petitioned on behalf of the Kinnar population3, which was also a transsexual population. After then, Laxmi Narayan Tripathy, a Hijra, requested to be nominated as an intervenor to fight for the interests of transgender community.
