ABSTRACT
International law, including the five space accords, has remained substantially intact despite a dramatic growth in human activity in space since the 1980s. It has taken years of uncertainty for space activities due to a lack of clarity on who is responsible and liable for space trash. State governments around the nation have taken action to solve these issues on their own. Additionally, the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee and the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space have created non-binding international instruments. According to the space treaties and current State measures, the international community has established that failure to minimise space debris would result in international responsibility. The official adoption of a national framework for mitigating space debris is now underway in India. Requirements for ISRO's Space Debris Mitigation Program are being tightened in accordance with IADC and UN norms, with the goal of creating more efficient methods for ensuring Indian organisations comply to the programme.
