INTRODUCTION
Hydrogen's potential to lessen our carbon impacts and slow global warming has made it an attractive fuel option. Fuel cell vehicles, power production, and industrial processes are just some of the areas where many nations have adopted policies and strategies to increase the use of hydrogen. This essay will compare and contrast the hydrogen policies of different nations, focusing on the pros and cons of each approach.
Japan
Japan has one of the world's most extensive hydrogen plans and is a leading proponent of hydrogen technologies. The Japanese government has officially sanctioned the "Basic Hydrogen Strategy," an overarching plan detailing the steps necessary to realise Japan's vision of a hydrogen-based society.
Hydrogen production, transit, storage, and utilisation are all central tenets of the Basic Hydrogen Strategy. The strategy establishes ambitious goals for the widespread use of hydrogen in contexts as diverse as fuel cell vehicles, electricity generation, and manufacturing. Particularly ambitious is Japan's goal of having 5 million fuel cell devices and 800,000 hydrogen-powered cars in use by 2030.The Japanese government has offered tax rebates, subsidies, and loan programmes to encourage hydrogen usage in order to realise these goals. In order to help finance the expansion of hydrogen facilities and technologies, the government has also set up a hydrogen supply chain fund.
The comprehensive approach to the hydrogen supply chain is an asset of Japan's hydrogen policy. Significant government money and incentives have also been made available to promote hydrogen deployment. To ensure a steady supply of hydrogen, Japan has also formed alliances with nations like Australia and Saudi Arabia.
