ABSTRACT
The artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming various sectors including the field of law. As with the rapid growth of artificial intelligence in various fields raises a query regarding the lawful implications of artificial intelligence and resulting into the crimes committed through it. The emergence of technology has also led to the increase in malpractices of artificial intelligence however raising a test for the government and judiciary to combat these challenges. Therefore, there is a need to revise the old criminal laws and addition of definition of new crimes in the IT Act of 2000 with the appropriate relief. Consequently, legislative steps are required to be taken by the government in order to contest with unlawful activities committed through artificial intelligence. The paper explores the meaning of artificial intelligence and also provide with different AI crimes such as face swapping, deepfakes, phishing attacks and AI-powered cyber-attacks etc. It suggest upon the requirement of AI personhood, the obligation of AI creators. This paper also deals with the ethical concerns and also highlights the need for establishment of statutory body at national and international domains to combat AI -crimes.
