ABSTRACT

This research extensively delves into the significance and operational effectiveness of Permanent Lok Adalats (PLAs) within the legal framework of India. Serving as specialized courts within the realm of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), PLAs provide efficient and cost-effective pathways for resolving disputes, especially those related to essential public services. By emphasizing mediation and conciliation, PLAs facilitate harmonious resolutions, thereby easing the burden on traditional courts and promoting social cohesion. The study highlights the indispensable role of PLAs in tackling the backlog of cases in conventional judicial systems, advocating for their pivotal contribution to democratizing access to justice and encouraging community engagement. Through an analysis of their jurisdiction, advantages, and potential for empowerment, this research underscores the vital function of PLAs in ensuring timely, accessible, and equitable dispute resolution for all segments of society.
