ABSTRACT
The term' political participation' has a veritably wide meaning. It isn't only related to' Right to Vote', but contemporaneously relates to participation in the decision- making process, political activism, political knowledge, etc. Despite the enactment of strict laws in India the status of women has not changed much in the pastoral region. The conception of equivalency is still at an incipient stage in these areas, with women being considered as the possession of family and their honour. This is an empirical research done by convenient sampling. The main objectives of the research is to determine if women have good political representation in our country, to determine the quality of leadership of women as with that of men & to find the possible causes for limited women political participation. Through this research it is found that women do not have enough political representation in our country. Women have the same quality of leadership as compared with that of men. Active participation of women in politics is a step towards gender equality. Political rights not only include just the right to vote. The causes for limited women political participation are discrimination, sexual violence, illiteracy, restriction to household limits. It is suggested that women involved in politics should take some of the strong women political leaders as their example & strive forward.
Keywords: Political rights, empowerment, discrimination, political participation, sexual violence.
