ABSTRACT
The regime for the conservation and protection of wildlife in the country used to be concerned with the commercial aspect of the utility of animal produces and products, the prospect was limited to conservation and protection to contribute to the economy. The paper focuses on that very aspect of the earlier regulations and how project elephants came as a promise of protection to the life of the species irrespective of the economic utility based around it. Had it been implemented as it was presented, Project Elephant gave away various benefits to the life of the animal which may be counted as the protection of the species, its habitat, and corridors along with the care of captive elephants and addressing the issue of man-animal conflict in the animal habitats.
