ABSTRACT

Corruption is a major concern that is proven by known facts and many physical evidences that already exist and affect national security and stability. It undermines socio-economic and political progress. Weakening democratic and moral principles. In addition, research shows that corruption is one of the main reasons for the lack of economic development and progress in developing countries such as India, and both the internal and external environment slow down the country's infrastructure. These demands also include changes in the current framework and reform of public spending transparency standards. Corruption is one of the main reasons why governments have slowed down the completion of extravagant projects, resulting in significant financial losses for taxpayers. Corruption is pervasive and corrupt practices have permeated all sectors of business, government, and society. In response, in 1966, India's first Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC) proposed the formation of two special agencies named "Lokpal" and "Lokayukta" to address the concerns of citizens. Dr. LM Singvi was the original creator of the concept of Lokpal, which has since been adopted by many international countries such as Finland, Denmark and Sweden. Lokpal and Lokayukta Act 2013 created statutory bodies for Lokpal and Lokayukta. Lokpal was set up to fight federal corruption, while Lokayukta was set up to fight state government corruption. This article examines the power and functioning of Lokayukta in India.
