A Critical Analysis On The Law Governing Commercialization And Protection Of Coral Reefs In Light Of Tourism

ABSTRACT


Coral reefs often referred as rainforest of the sea, are the diverse and fascinating marine ecosystem in the world. At least 25% of all marine species shelter, find food, breed and rear their young ones in the nooks and crannies formed by corals. The contribution of these marine invertebrates to the global economy has been immense with amount of US $2.7 trillion, out of which coral reef tourism alone contributes US $36 billion. Despite its significance yet these vital resources are in great danger. There is a significant lack of international policy to regulate commercialization and protection coral reefs. This paper aims to analyze the existing laws that governs the corals, adding an emphasis to come up with effective laws, so that protection of corals and rise in economy go hand in hand in the special

context of tourism.
