A Critical Analysis Of Covid-19 And Its Effect On Legal Infrastructure

ABSTRACT


In India, covid-19 had a enormous impact on every industry, and legal industry is no exception. Legal industry has been hit hard by unexpected crises. Covid-19 pandemic disturbed the practice of law. Covid-19 pandemic came at a time when India’s focus was already on digitization of judiciary and court administrative system, Setting up of e-courts or virtual courts for various matters. But due to sudden and unexpected outbreak of covid-19 bring about a quick transformation in legal industry. India’s legal industry now using new technologies in every stage of proceedings. As per safety measures government of India imposed nationwide lockdown and restrict the movement of people from one place to another, thus physical appearance of the lawyers is not encouraged in the courts then Indian legal industry adopted new ways of working with new technologies, setting up of e-courts. This paper aims to explore and broadly cover the situation in India due to pandemic, and how covid-19 impacted Indian legal system including advocates, law firms, judges and aggrieved party seeking legal aid and then examine how court administrative system reacted to this situation which occurs due to uncontrollable outbreak of corona virus pandemic. It will outline some lacunae in existing legal infrastructure. It will then discuss how USA’s legal system has been severely impacted by the covid-19 crises and then discuss what all are the challenges which have been faced by USA’s legal sector.
